The CLEARITY Foundation for Ovarian Cancer Sunset Sail on the Yacht America

September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month and the CLEARITY Foundation for Ovarian Cancer will hold its opening fundraiser event on September 17, 2008 aboard the 139 foot America’s cup legendary yacht, the America. Cocktails begin dockside at 5 PM and special guest Dennis Conner will be on board when the ship sets sail at 6 PM sharp. CLEARITY Foundation founder, Laura Shawver will provide a brief update on the foundation services, after which guests will relax to the sound of flamenco guitar with cool drinks, freshly prepared sushi, and hot and savory passed appetizers. It promises to be a fantastic San Diego evening with a spectacular sunset near 7 PM and an almost full moon rising one hour later.

About The CLEARITY Foundation: The CLEARITY Foundation is the only ovarian cancer foundation that focuses on targeted treatments for today’s advanced ovarian cancer patients in order to improve their options now. This is important because patients already diagnosed with ovarian cancer can’t wait a decade for new drugs to be developed as current treatment options are often not effective for recurrent ovarian cancer.

Our founder, Laura Shawver, is an ovarian cancer survivor AND a cancer researcher who helped to commercialize a first-in class drug for two extremely hard to treat cancers (kidney cancer and a type of stomach cancer). Her idea is to screen and match ovarian cancer patients’ tumors against targeted drugs approved by the FDA for other cancer types and if we find a match, trial that drug. Her idea is a simple one, and if it works, it would be faster than new drug development for currently diagnosed ovarian cancer patients. It is a process that might be measured in a few years versus a few decades. Approximately, $1000 will provide one patient with the basic profiling service.

All proceeds from the CLEARITY Foundation September Sunset sail will be used to offset the cancer matching service (molecular profiles). A $500 donation is requested for entrance to the Sunset Sail on Yacht America and is 100% tax deductible.
