DavidBartonGym launches national training initiative to fight ovarian cancer and raise $100,000 in September 2010

DavidBartonGym Kicks Off Month-Long Charitable Program In Honor of Diane Barton in New York, Miami, Chicago, and Seattle

(New York, NY) – For the first time in nearly two decades, DavidBartonGym will change its training-as-usual gym operation in an endeavor to raise $100,000 for Ovarian Cancer. Throughout September 2010, Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, DavidBartonGym will launch a national fundraising campaign in each of the gyms’ cities, (New York, Miami, Chicago, and Seattle) in honor of founder David Barton’s sister, Diane, and will benefit the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund and The Clearity Foundation.

To reach Barton’s goal of raising $100,000 for Ovarian Cancer in honor of Diane Barton, he will declare September 22, 2010 as “Diane’s Day” at all gyms and members and non-members will be able to train for Ovarian Cancer. All money raised from the $50 training sessions will be donated to Ovarian Cancer research. Additionally, throughout September, the gym will lower its enrollment fee to $100, all of which will go towards the cause.

“Diane Day” will come to a close with evening cocktail parties in the gyms’ lobbies, featuring trunk shows, silent auctions and additional special activities. The Ovarian Cancer Research Fund and The Clearity Foundation will also have informational booths on-site to further educate guests on the deadly disease. All funds raised from the private sessions at all six gyms will be donated to both Ovarian Cancer organizations.

“Ovarian Cancer is hard to detect but harder to treat. I have identified two organizations whose research is benefitting people right now and who need additional funding to continue to make improvements in treatment and detection. Every penny gets us closer to improving someone’s chances out there. I can’t emphasize enough the importance of acting now,” said David Barton, founder of DavidBartonGym.

David Barton learned first-hand the tragic impact Ovarian Cancer has on women and their families five years ago when his sister Diane lost her battle to the disease. Barton remains committed to the cause and this September, he will utilize his namesake gyms as resources to raise awareness and bring communities together to fight Ovarian Cancer.

In addition to “Diane Day,” DavidBartonGym in Seattle will also host a special in-gym cocktail party celebrating Fashion’s Night Out at The Bravern in Bellevue on Friday, September 10, 2010. All sales from the evening will be donated to Ovarian Cancer research.
